For Love or Money

On the second session of “Love & Money”, a British Council’s international designer event, Gilamon took on a bigger role (we missed the boat on the first one due to the dateline of ourgraphic novel). We had a booth and Mike represented us for the Pecha Kucha night.

The turn ups for that day was much greater than the previous “L&M” event (26 May). Lots of design students as well as new designers attended. The pros are there too, we had some good chats with Tin Toy, Chun Woei Urban Creatures, the boys of 84Cubes, the Pipit couple, Driv, Radio among others.

Juan came back from Singapore to launch Big Bros’ latest artbook release, “I Love You Baby”, a 400+ pages of character design collection. All the stocks were completely soldout with lots of standing orders. See our June webnews for info related to “I Love You Baby”.

Back to “L&M2”, Gilamon’s booth served as a sneek preview for our latest range of tees entitled Gilamon Black. We want to thank the British Council for inviting us to this event.

Talk Talk

As a grant winner who have completed our task, Gilamon was invited to share their experience during MDeC’s Digital Comic Talk. The event, which is to encourage participation in the MSC IP Creator Challenge was held at the KL Hilton on the 14th of June, 2007. The hall was packed with closed to a hundred audiences. Among them are college and university students, veteran and up coming talents.

Lefty gave the talk on behalf of Gilamon, shared about Gilamon’s work and background, elaborating on how we are trying to cross the border to other fields such as fashion, design and digital. He also gave out tips for those who are going to take part in the IP Challenge. Lefty shared the stage with PeKOMIK president, Mohamad Azhar Abdullah and Malaysian comic legend, Jaafar Taib. Aadi Salman, Milx, Alan Quah, Kromosom and Eisu are among the cream of the crop of Malaysian comic industry who came to show their support.

For The Love Or Money

We were suppose to focus on completing our graphic novel, but this is too good to let go. Its the exhibition Love & Money which features 20 projects and designers that balance business ambition and commercial success with the invention and experimentation for which Britain’s Creative industries are internationally renowned.

The theme overall theme, therefore, is about the marriage of design and business, and how designers are doing what they do for love and money.

We will be participating in the 23 June(Saturday) slot. Its on Level 3, Avenue K, KL. The programme starts from as early as 11am up to 10pm. Please come over if you all are free on that day. If things go as plan, our latest T-shirt series will be available on that day as well.

We 3

This is a piece we did as a cover for Jay Lim’s digital mag. It will be inserted in the up-and-coming issue of Territory Magazine.

The latest installment of In & Out features an “interview” with Scorn and Spunks. Read about how Scorn jumped of his Headquarter’s first floor and bleeds to tell about it in Star Talk 19. Its in mandarin, though. In&Out is conceptualized and illustrated by Michael, Headquarter is located at Cineleisure, Damansara while Star Talk is available in most newsstand through out Malaysia.
